6th Carolinas Super Senior at High Meadows from July 21-22

WEST END, NC (7/20/14) -- The 6th Carolinas Super Senior Championship will be held at High Meadows Golf & Country Club in Roaring Gap, NC on July 21-22, 2014.

96 players have qualified for the 2014 Carolinas Super Senior Championship. The championship format is 36 holes of stroke play. An on-course play-off is used to break a tie for the overall championship. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday by July 21, 2014, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN Handicap Index at a CGA member club that does not exceed 15.4.

The High Meadows Golf course, designed by George Cobb in 1964 and set in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Western North Carolina, is one of the most amazing courses in the Carolinas. The course has strategically placed bunkers, rolling hills and meandering streams and ponds that come into play around the course. Elevation changes and breathtaking views make the course exciting each and every time it is played. The signature 12th hole tee offers a spectacular view of the lake with the mountains of Southwest Virginia in the background; the 18th hole, a par 5, challenges two lakes and is guarded by a deep bunker front and left of the green. High Meadows has previously hosted the 1982 and 1983 Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship.

In the 2013 Super Senior championship, Arlis Pike of Kernersville, NC carded a final round 69 to finish at 4-under 138; three shots ahead of Stan Kinney of Summerfield, NC. Pike has won 3 CGA championships. In addition to the 2013 Super Senior, he has been crowned champion of the 2013 Super Senior Four-Ball Championship and the 1992 North Carolina Amateur championship.

Pike is returning this year to defend his championship crown. Other notables in this year's field comprise a virtual who's who of amateur champions over the past few decades: 2009 and 2011 Carolinas Super Senior Champion and 15-time CGA Champion Larry Boswell of Jamestown, NC; 2012 Carolinas Super Senior Champion and 2-time CGA Champion John Walters of Charlotte, NC; 2013 North Carolina Super Senior champion Rick Luzar of Pinehurst, NC; 2012 and 2013 Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball champion Ernie Newton of Wallburg, NC; 2008 North Carolina Senior champion Gary Strickfaden of Southern Pines, NC; and two third place finishers in the 2013 Carolinas Super Senior championship: 3-time CGA champion Jim Pridgen, Jamestown, NC and Jim Sterling, Wilmington, NC.
