CGA Announces 9th Carolinas Pro-Junior Championship

9th CAROLINAS PRO-JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP AT TREYBURN COUNTRY CLUB IN DURHAM, NC - JULY 21, 2014

WEST END, NC (7/20/14) -- The 9th Carolinas Pro-Junior Championship will be held at Treyburn Country Club in Durham, NC on July 21, 2014.

38 teams have entered the 2014 Carolinas Pro-Junior Championship. The championship is contested at 18 holes of Chapman format. Both team members play from the teeing ground, switch golf balls for the second shot, then select one ball for the third shot and play alternate shot until the ball is holed. A team must then complete the hole with the ball selected.

Entry is open to any team comprised of a golf professional and a junior golfer under the age of 19 who has not started college whose member club is part of the Carolinas Golf Association. The professional and junior golfer must be legal residents of North Carolina or South Carolina. Golf Professionals will play from the same set of tees and the junior will play from tees based on gender and age. Female professionals and professionals over the age of 60 may play a shorter set of tee designated by the committee.

Established in 1988, Treyburn Country Club hosts the Triangle’s original Fazio design. Sculpted into the scenic, rolling Carolina hills of northern Durham, the essence of Treyburn is the Fazio designed 7,070 yard Championship golf course. Playing to a par 72, Treyburn Country Club was named "Best New Course" by Golf Digest in its inaugural year and has matured into one of the finest in country especially after extensive restoration in 2012. By reseeding the greens, renowned architect and renovation expert Kris Spence and his team were able to rebuild each green to their original specs, while also providing better drainage to each complex. On several greens, they were able to soften severe slopes, providing more pin locations. Treyburn Country Club has previously hosted 8 CGA Championships: 1991, 2009 Carolinas Mid-Amateur; 1993 Carolinas Amateur; 2000 North Carolina Mid-Amateur, 2004 North Carolina Senior Four-Ball; 2012 North Carolina Amateur; 2013 Carolinas Club Championship; and 2013 Carolinas Women's Amateur championships.

In the 2013 Pro-Junior championship, Jason Harris and McKenzie Barringer of Treyburn Country Club in Durham, NC carded a 6-under par 66 to finish one shot ahead of four other teams at the Greensboro Country Club (Farm Course) in Greensboro, NC. Harris and Barringer are returning to this year's championship to defend their crown.
