CGAcer Hole-in-One Club Prize Winners

SOUTHERN PINES, NC (February 3, 2016) – The Carolinas Golf Association announced the winners of the 2015 CGAcer Hole-in-One Club Contest held on February 1, 2016.  CGA members who made a hole in one in 2015 and submitted an application were eligible.  Prizes for the 2015 annual drawing for holes-in-one winners are:

  •        1st Place – CGA Golf Shirt, CGA Tervis Tumbler Set, CGA Vanity License Plate, CGA Hat and “Golf in the Carolinas” Centennial Book

  •        2nd Place – CGA Golf Shirt, CGA Vanity License Plate, CGA Hat and “Golf in the Carolinas” Centennial Book

  •        3rd Place – CGA Tervis Tumbler Set, CGA Vanity License Plate, CGA Hat and “Golf in the Carolinas” Centennial Book

The three winners are:

  •        Georgia Connell (Roebuck, SC) – September 23 (Hole 11 – 117 Yards – 7 Iron) Three Pines Country Club, Woodruff, SC (Member Club)

  •        Larry Schneider (McCormick, SC) March 7 (Hole 8 – 174 Yards – 6 Iron) Monticello Golf Club at Savannah Lakes Village, McCormick, SC (Member Club)

  •        Robert Brooks (Pinehurst, NC) – July 27 (Hole 15 – 130 Yards – 7 Iron) Pinehurst Country Club Course No. 5, Pinehurst, NC (Member Club)

One hundred and ninety two (192) members submitted applications to the CGAcers club for holes-in-one in 2015.  The longest ace made was a 297 yarder on May 2, 2015 by 77-year-old Jack Sommer from Cornelius, NC at the Birkdale Golf Club in Huntersville, NC.  Sommer used a Driver on hole #7 to record his first career ace.  The shortest hole-in-one was a 60 yard sand wedge shot made by Blair Criminger from Charlotte, NC on April 2 at the North Course at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte on the 10th hole. 

Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, SC reported the most holes-in-one with 28 and Wildwood Green Golf Club in Raleigh, NC was second with 12.

A significant accomplishment of three holes-in-one in a calendar year was reported by Cecil Tester from Conover, NC.  They were made on September 10 (Hole 9 – 176 Yards – 5 Wood), November 9 (Hole 16 – 120 Yards – 8 Iron) and November 22 (Hole 9 – 176 Yards – 7 Wood).  All were on the Jackson Course at Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, NC.   

Linda McCarron (Hilton Head Island, SC) had two holes-in-one during 2015 – one November 15 and one November 19.  They were both on the same hole (Hole 17 – 118 Yards – 6 Iron) at her member club, Moss Creek Golf Club, North Course, in Hilton Head Island, SC.

Four other golfers accomplished the rare feat of recording two (2) Holes-In-One in the same calendar year:

  • Diane LaVersa (Raleigh, NC) June 13 (Hole 17 – 110 Yards – 5 Hybrid) and November 8 (Hole 6 – 113 Yards – 7 Wood) – both at Wildwood Green Golf Club in Raleigh, NC.
  • Dean Mathis (Campobello, SC) – March 15 (Hole 16 – 166 yards – 5 Iron) at Three Pines Country Club in Woodruff, SC and October 7 (Hole 3 – 150 Yards – 5 Iron) at Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, SC.
  • Jay Meadows (Elizabeth City, NC) – May 22 (Hole 12 – 195 Yards – 4 Iron) and October 6 (Hole 16 – 98 Yards – Sand Wedge) – both at The Pines at Elizabeth City in Elizabeth City, NC.
  • Larry Schneider (McCormick, SC) – March 7 (Hole 8 – 174 Yards – 6 Iron) and December 15 (Hole 16 – 210 Yards – 4 Wood) both at the Monticello Golf Club at Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick, SC.

The CGA will be awarding prizes again for 2017.  The random drawing will take place on January 31, 2017 and all holes-in-one must be received at the CGA office no later than January 15, 2017.  The CGAcer hole-in-one form is available on our website and must be completed and submitted for eligibility.  The hole-in-one must be scored from January 1 through December 31, 2016.  Your name will be entered for EACH hole-in-one made in 2016.  You must be a current CGA member and carry a USGA/CGA handicap to be eligible.  CGA Staff, executive committee members and their families are ineligible.  Prizes will change annually.

The CGAers Hole In One program is one of many services offered by the Carolinas Golf Association.
