Carolinas-Virginias Team Matches
Policies and Procedures
Purpose: The purpose of the Carolinas Team is to engage in an annual competition versus the Virginias Team to further the interest of
competitive golf for women.

Competition Venue: The competitions will rotate from NC to VA to SC to WV cyclically.

Captain and Co-Captain Selection:  In even years (2010-2012, etc.) the WCGA President shall appoint a Co-Captain. As Co-
Captain she shall serve two years and automatically ascend to Captain for a two year term. As Captain she must be a resident of the host
state when the matches are played in the Carolinas. The Captain and the host state must remain in harmony.

These even year appointments take place thirty (30) days after the final matches of that even year ( 2010-2012, etc. )
The Captain and Co-Captain may be either playing or non-playing. Both shall be members of the WCGA board and have one vote
between them. In the event the Captain or Co-Captain cannot fulfill her responsibilities, the WCGA President shall appoint a
replacement from that state to finish out the term.

Team Selection:  The team is comprised of 24 players, 4 of these may be Captains Picks**
18        Regular players – minimum age 18+  50% of these players are to be 25+ years of age
  4        Senior players – age 50+
  2        Super-senior players – age 60+
Team captain & co-captain may or may not be competitors.
The Captain and Co-Captain shall have responsibility for fielding the best possible team within the limits of criteria selection. The
Captain four (4) Captain’s picks handicap minimum is waived.

Team Eligibility:
Regular:
           Age 18+ by first day of competition
           NC or SC resident by June 1 of competition year
           Member of WCGA, WSCGA, NCWGA, or CGA
           Valid USGA index of 6.0 or less**
            Must have competed in at least one WCGA, WSCGA, NCWGA, or CGA Championship within the past two years
Senior:
          Age 50+ by first day of competition
         NC or SC resident by June 1 of competition year
         Member of WCGA, WSCGA, NCWGA, or CGA
         Valid USGA index of 6.0 or less**
         Must have competed in at least one WCGA, WSCGA, NCWGA, or CGA Championship within the past two years
         
Super-Senior:
        Age 60+ by first day of competition
        NC or SC resident by June 1 of competition year
        Member of WCGA, WSCGA, NCWGA, or CGA
        Valid USGA index of 6.0 or less**
        Must have competed in at least one WCGA, WSCGA, NCWGA, or CGA Championship within the past two years

     ** Handicap minimum is waived for captain’s picks

Selection Criteria:   Letters of eligibility are to be sent to all known eligible players
The following players are automatically included in the roster, if available to play:
WCGA Champion – current year
WCGA runner-up - current year
WCGA Senior Champion – current year
NCWGA – reigning champion
WSCGA – reigning champion

The remainder of the team shall come from the respondents to the eligibility letter, and is based the Carolinas Golf Association
Women's Rankings as of June 1 of the competition year plus these WCGA  Championship points:
Champion: Automatic Invitation
Runner up: Automatic Invitation
Senior Champion: Automatic Invitation
25        Champion flight winner
20        Champion flight 2nd
15        Champion flight 3rd
10        Champion flight 4th
50        Super Senior Champion

Duties of Captain and Co-captain:  The captain and co-Captain shall have responsibility for fielding the best possible team within
the limits of criteria selection. The Captain has four (4) Captain’s picks. Handicap minimum is waived for Captain’s  picks.

Duties of Captain:  
1.        Secure site for the host event in her state
2.        Contact the NCWGA and WSCGA to solicit funds for Team Matches
3.        The captain will bear her own travel expenses to the matches
4.        Provide eligibility list to WCGA president for review as soon as practicable.
5.        Issue letters  to eligible players including all pertinent information
6.        Receive and rank responses to produce final team list. Report same to WCGA president and webmaster for publication.
7.        Budget event based on available funds – be cognizant-  when Carolina is the host team, expenses will be higher.
        Plan accordingly.
8.        Responsible for team pairings and seeding. The captain may rearrange these assignments daily.
9.        Issue team medals to each player
10.      Reporting – to be completed within two weeks of final day of competition:
         a.        President: Results & Financial Report
         b.        Treasurer: Financial Report
         c.        Webmaster: Results, summary of events, photos
11.        Update perpetual trophy (when we win)
12.        Attend all meetings & matches whether playing or not

Duties of Co-captain:
1.        Assist Captain
2.        The co-captain will bear her own travel expenses to the match
3.        Attend all meeting & matches whether playing or not

Players Responsibilities:
1.        All players are to be present for the practice round one day prior to matches
2.        All players are expected to attend all social functions.
3.        All players are to bear their own travel expenses to the matches
4.        All players are to observe the dress code and code of conduct.

Funding:  
 In 2010, the WCGA  board approved 30% of the funds received annually (exclusive of tournament funds) for Team Matches.
Keep in mind that a shortfall in WCGA funds received from membership dues and other outside sources does not change the
percentage of allocation to team. The WCGA annual contribution dollar amount to the team varies based on their available funds. The
captain and her team may (with prior approval from the WCGA board) solicit other funding resources.

Format of Play: The format for this competition is determined by consensus of the Carolinas and Virginias Team Captains.
