CLINTON, S.C.-- Kevin Pendley of Greenwood, SC defeated Mark Thaxton of Rock Hill, SC, one up, in the final of the 83rd Carolinas Amateur championship at Musgrove Mill Golf Club. Pendley, a rising senior at Winthrop College, defeated defending champion Cordes Ford of Charleston, SC. in the semifinals. Pendley and Ford had similar stories en route to the major title of the Carolinas Golf Association: collegians taking their first major title by winning several tight matches. Thaxton of Rock Hill, SC defeated Clemson golfer Sean Thornton of Easley SC, one up, in the other semifinal match. The championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
