The Carolinas team, paced by six shutouts, won the 54th

Carolinas-Virginias team matches at Grandfather Golf and Country Club.

The Carolinas took early leads in six front-nine matches. Solid back-nine

play helped them pull away from the Virginias for the 46-point win.

Dick Hix, III of Wilkesboro, NC captain of the Carolinas team and member of Grandfather Golf and Country

Club was thrilled. "After losing last year in Virginia, it was nice to

return to Grandfather Golf and Country Club and win by such a large

margin." said Hix.

With the Carolinas win, the record now stands at 40-13-1 in favor of the

Carolinas.

Twenty-four players from each squad (8 senior and 16 regulars) played a nassau

format where each team can gain points by winning the front nine (2

points), the back nine (2 points) and the overall 18 holes (2 points). 72

points are available each day with 108 ½ needed for a win.

The event is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association and the Virginias

State Golf Association.
