Georgetown, SC--Robert Kulp, 55, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina shot a final round one-over par 73 to win the 40th Senior Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, South Carolina.

Kulp, a cosmetic dentist, held off 36-hole leader Woody Greene of Columbia, SC and Bob Stringer of Blythewood, SC by one stroke with his 213 total. Stringer shot the only sub-par final round.

Greene entered the final round with a one-stroke lead but his putting seemed to make the difference today. "I had been putting great the last 2 months", said Greene. "But today I had four 3-putts and that made the difference".

Kulp played the front nine in two-under par. "I had a great front nine", stated Kulp. "But then I hacked it home." He had four bogeys and one birdie on the back nine. His three-shot lead was trimmed to one by the 17th hole. "I have been reading a lot of Dr. Bob Rotella (sports psychologist) books and I have figured out that I shouldn't give up no matter what."

Kulp won the 1998 and 2000 North and South Senior Amateur Championship at Pinehurst Country Club and was a quarterfinalist in the 2001 United States Senior Amateur Championship.

2000 Carolinas Senior Champion, Ronnie Grove of Raleigh, NC shot a final round 76 and finished T18th .

The Carolinas Senior Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the first day of the championship, is a legal resident of one of the Carolinas, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has a current CGA handicap index that does not exceed 10.4.

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
