GENE AND JEFF SPENCER WINS THE 38th CAROLINAS FATHER-SON CHAMPIONSHIP

ABERDEEN, NC--Final results of the 38th Father-Son Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Legacy Golf Links in Aberdeen, NC on Friday, July 30. (6600 yards, par 36-36--72)

2003 Carolinas Senior champion, Gene Spencer of Blythewood, SC and his 20 year-old son Jeff Spencer of Blythewood, SC fired a six-under par 66 to claim a one-stroke victory over Banks and Banks Wood of Charlotte, NC.

Play was suspended for 50 minutes due to area thunderstorms. Once play resumed, the Spencer duo birdied the 15th, 16th and 17th holes. Their lone bogey of the day came on the 18th hole.

The Carolinas Father-Son Championship was played at five Pinehurst, NC area courses. 390 teams competed in the year's event. Host courses were Legacy Golf Links in Aberdeen; Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club in Southern Pines; Pinewild Country Club (Holly) in Pinehurst; Foxfire Golf and Country Club (Red Fox) in Foxfire Village; and Seven Lakes Country Club in Seven Lakes. The modified alternate shot format always tests the wits and patience of all participants.

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
