Sunday Championship Results

SPARTANBURG, S.C.—Kellen Altman of Conway, S.C. won the 33rd CGA South Carolina Amateur Sunday afternoon at The Carolina Country Club. Altman, 21, a rising senior at the College of Charleston, defeated Ben Martin of Greenwood, 2 and 1, in the scheduled 36-hole final.

Altman staked himself to an early lead when he won the third, fourth and fifth holes. His lead wavered between two and three holes until lunch, and Altman lost three of the first four holes in the afternoon share of the match.

His dad, Tom, caddied for Altman and offered advice after the match moved to all square. "He told me to think of this as just an 18-hole match and that we are all even," Kellen said.

With his fresh outlook, Altman won the 23rd and 24th holes. "Neither of us played as well as we did in previous matches," Altman said. "I was happy to get back in the lead."

Martin, 17, headed to Clemson University in the fall, said his game was off Sunday, and he could not make critical birdie putts.

Altman was two over par for the match.
