Carolinas, which owned a 14-10 lead heading into last day singles, bested Virginias regulars, 9-7, and won seniors matches, 4½-3½. A victory in each match scores one point in the Ryder Cup-style format, and if a match goes 18 holes without a decision, one-half point is awarded to each side.

Virginias regulars got off to a strong start, winning three of the first four matches. Decker then won Nos. 10 and 11 to go 2 up and held the lead the rest of the way. Newsom, meanwhile, scored a wire-to-wire 5 and 3 win over Walter Todd (Laurens, S.C.). Luke Hart (Blythewood, S.C.) registered Carolinas lone victory in that span, getting past Tad Tomblin (Charleston, W.Va.), 1 up.
