Buies Creek - Final round results of the 3rd North Carolina Women's Senior Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, NC on Wednesday, September 27, 2006.  Par 36-36--72, 5528 yards.

 

Finally!  Melissa Sage of Charlotte captures her first CGA championship title after shooting an even par round, 72 during the final round of the North Carolina Women's Senior Championship.  Sage found herself in familiar territory having come second in many CGA events for the past few years.  Sage was one shot back of the lead heading into Wednesday's round and was again playing in the lead group.  Steady golf and making key putts when she needed to contributed to her win.  Sage said, "I made some putts when I needed to in order to avoid those big numbers, I also did not get into a lot of trouble off the tee either.  I am very pleased to be the champion."

 

Defending champion, Dianne Yelovich of Pinehurst finished in third place.  First round leader, Karen Wheeler of Whispering Pines, had a tough day and finished in sixth place.

 

In the super senior division, Mary Jo McLamb and Peggy Hall found themselves playing in a sudden death playoff to determine the champion.  It took four holes but in the end McLamb of Lillington won the Super Senior trophy.  The super senior division plays a shorter course.

 

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
