Final Round Results

Foxfire Village, NC - Bobby Dean and Anthony Ray of Charlotte blistered the Foxfire Country Club West course to claim the North Carolina Four-Ball Championship.

The stellar day belonged to Bobby Dean, a mortgage salesman, who carded 8 birdies and 1 eagle to catapult his team to their 10-under par total of 62.

The Charlotte duo bested three other teams by three strokes.

Due to the torrential downpours earlier in the week, the NC Four-Ball format, normally a three-day stroke-play event, was changed.

With the field split over two courses (Foxfire East and West) the tournament committee was limited in options to complete the event.

The new format placed 108 teams in separate qualifiers on both courses in the first round with a cut made on each course to the low 15 teams and ties. 42 teams qualified for the final day which was competed at 18 holes stroke play.

"This was a great win for us", said Bobby Dean. "When we learned of the revised format, we said to ourselves 'we can win this thing.' "

Although Dean carried the team for most of the day, partner Ray capped a needed par on 17 and birdied the 18^th from 7 feet.

"It was just one of those days," grinned Ray, a filter salesman for machinery. "It was fun watching Bobby play like he did"

This event is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
