Final Round Results
BLYTHEWOOD, SC - Final round results of the 39th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by The Windermere Club in Blythewood, SC on Thursday, April 26. (6350 yards, par 36-36—72).
Joe Padgette, 56, of North Charleston, SC and Bill Smunk, 56, of Kingstree, SC fired a final round four-under par 68—201 total to win the Carolinas Senior Four-Ball championship by two strokes. The Bulls Bay Golf Club members entered the final round only one stroke off the lead. After carding pars on the first eleven holes, Padgette and Smunk birdied four out of the last seven holes to claim the title.
“We ham and egged it real well today”, stated Smunk, an insurance agent. “After not getting off to a great start, we birdied four out of our last seven holes and the next thing I know we are being handed the trophies.”
Sharing a tie for second place are 36-hole leaders Arnold Edwards and Doug Buchanan of Charlotte, NC; 2004 champions Vic Hannon of Camden, SC and Jim Patti of Bluffton, SC; and Brodie Baker of Bermuda Run, NC and Jim Pridgen of Jamestown, NC.
Defending champions Ron Carpenter of Durham, NC and Ernie Newton of High Point, NC finished in a tie for fifth place at 10-under par 206.
The Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship is open to male amateur golfers over age 55, is a resident of one of the Carolinas and is a member of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA). This event is one of 31 major championships conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association as a service to its 700 member clubs representing over 180,000 individuals.
