Final Results

Okatie, SC—54 holes were not enough to determine the champion of the 59^th Carolinas Junior Championship. But Michael Marshburn of Cary only needed one extra hole to defeat Mark Joye of Columbia to capture his first Carolinas Golf Association junior title. Marshburn, a rising senior at Greenhope High School, finished with a three day total of two over par 212 after a final round of 71 on the 6606 yards par 70 Chechessee Creek Club course. Joye had the low round of the day with a three under par 67 to finish tied for first. In the playoff, Marshburn and Joye missed the par five tenth hole’s green. Joye blasted out of the greenside bunker to about 4 feet. Marshburn then chipped to about 1 foot and tapped in for birdie. Joye then missed his birdie putt which ended the playoff. Both Marshburn and Joye will be invited to represent the Carolinas in the Carolinas-Virginias Junior Team Matches on August 9-10, 2008 at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, NC.

In the boys’ 14-15 division, Robert Register of Burlington finished with a three day total of 214, good enough for a four shot victory over Michael Nesmith of North Augusta, SC. Drew Johnson of Oak Ridge, NC won the boys’ 12-13 age division on the second playoff hole over Wesley Long of Bluffton, SC. Trace Crowe of Easley, SC finished off his wire to wire victory in the boys’ 11 and under division with a nine hole score of 38 and a 27 hole total of 106.

This annual junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
