Final Round Results
Wilmington, NC – Final round results of the 40th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by the Country Club of Landfall, Nicklaus course (Marsh-Ocean), in Wilmington, NC on Thursday, April 10, 2008. (6450 yards, par 36-36—72).
Paul Simson and Don Detweiler of Raleigh, NC shot a two-under par 70 total to win the 40th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship. The victory marks the 17th CGA title for Simson and first for Detweiler. This was Simson’s first Senior Four-Ball title. Detweiler had a little local knowledge as he is the reigning Country Club of Landfall club champion.
“We did not make a bogey for the 3 days,” Simson said. “We played really great together. I did well pairing-up with the club champion.”
“It was really special for me to have a partner as good and classy as Paul,” noted Detweiler.
Finishing one-shot out was Lex Alexander of Chapel Hill, NC and Bill Boles of Wilson, NC. Alexander and Boles’ round of 69 jumped them into second place.
Logan Jackson of Winston-Salem, NC and Bill Palmer of Bluffton, SC briefly held the lead during the final round. But a five-over par stretch during the last 10 holes dropped them into a 4th place finish.
Defending champions Joe Padgette of North Charleston, SC and Bill Smunk of Kingstree, SC finished in a tie for 24th place.
This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
