Final Match Play Results

Camden, SC - Uncle and nephew Walter and Thomas Todd of Laurens, SC  overcame some last minute struggles to capture the Carolinas Four Ball Championship at Camden Country Club by a 1-up margin

The Todds defeated qualifying medalists Scott Harvey of Greensboro, NC and Patrick Brady of Reidsville, NC by a slim 1-up lead.

The Todds walked to the 17th tee with a 2-up lead but lost to a par on 17 before Thomas coolly holed a 16 footer for par on 18 to halve the hole and win the match.

Walter, a former champion in the Carolinas Mid-Amateur and the South Carolina Mid Amateurs was pleased with his younger partner's nerves.

"Thomas certainly bailed out his choking uncle", said Walter alluding to Thomas' clutch putts on 16 and 18.  "I left him hanging out there too many times coming in".

Thomas holed out shots from off the green on 1, 2 and 16.  He also holed the winning putt.

Brady and Harvey were vying to become the first qualifying medalists to win the championship since 1998.  They never led during the match and fell 2 down after a Thomas Todd eagle on 14 and a Walter Todd tap in birdie on 15.

This makes the third runner up finish for Brady ('92, '93 '09) in this event.  The first two came with partner Mike Goodes.

This event is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association which is celebrating its centennial this year. For more history on the Carolinas Four-Ball Championship, click http://www.carolinasgolf.org/tourn/2009/yearbook/4ball.pdf
