Sunset Beach, NC – Final round results of the 6th Mixed Team Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Ocean Ridge Plantation, Panther’s Run course, in Sunset Beach, NC on Sunday, September 4, 2011. (Par 36-36—72; Championship Men Blue tees=6516 yards (71.5/132); Tournament Men & Senior Men White tees=6115 yards (69.6/124); Championship Women Gold tees=5537 yards (72.3/132); Tournament Women & Senior Women Red tees=5023 yards (69.7/116).
Jordan Walor and Shauna Walor of Wake Forest, NC carded a final round 64 to win the Carolinas Mixed Team Championship by five strokes. The Walor brother-sister duo ended a five year winning streak held by Anthony and Debbie Adams of Asheville, NC. The Adams’s finished alone in second place at 136.
“Jordan was hitting it very close all day which led to so many birdies”, stated Shauna Walor. Jordan Walor carded eight birdies in the final round. “We had a lot of fun playing together and look forward to defending our title next year”. Jordan, a college senior, and Shauna, a college junior, both play collegiate golf at UNC-Pembroke in Lumberton, NC.
In the Tournament division which played a shorter course, William Sturtevant of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Detta Cutright of Oak Island, NC took first place with an even par 144 total.
The Senior division was divided into two flights with Dan and Deborah Beasley of Waynesville, NC taking the first flight title while Russ and Linda Daniel of Huntersville, NC won the second flight.
The Carolinas Mixed Team Championship is open to male and female residents of North and South Carolina who are members of a CGA member club.
This championship is one of 35 conducted annually by the Carolinas Golf Association as a service to its 700 member clubs representing 168,000 golfers.
