Cary, NC proved that it is not size of the player but the heart of a
champion in winning the 16th NC Junior Boy’s 13 and Under
Championship at Asheboro GC in Asheboro,
NC. Kim, an 11 year old rising sixth grader,
defeated four older opponents to secure his first CGA junior championship. In Tuesday’s first match, Kim chipped in for
par on the final hole to defeat home town favorite Justin Emmons of Asheboro, NC. Kim advanced to the championship match by
defeating Dalton Mauldin of Sanford, 2&1 in a very close match. In the 18 hole championship match, Kim won
the first four holes to take a commanding lead over Will Tamplin of Fairview, NC. Tamplin fought hard and pushed the match to
the fifteen holes, but Kim took the title winning 4&3. Also winning their flights were Alexander
Scott of Raleigh, NC,
Charlie Tate of Greensboro and Jack Dunn of Raleigh.
This
annual junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
