Charlotte, NCCarter Jenkins of Raleigh and Isabella Rusher of Salisbury battled heat, long matches and tough opponents through three days of match play to capture their state titles in the 45th NC Junior Championship.  Jenkins, a rising high school, defeated Victor Wiggins of Gastonia in his semi-finals match who reached the semi-finals for the second consecutive year.  In the championship match, Jenkins defeated 14 year old Eric Bae of Cary 4&3 to win his second Carolinas Golf Association championship.  Jenkins won the NC Junior 13 and Under title in 2009.  Bae got off to a fast start in the championship match taking a two lead over the first three holes.  Jenkins then chipped away at the lead and taking control of the match when Bae failed to get up and down for par on the 12th hole.  Jenkins then finished off the match with a birdie three on the 15th hole and secured his title.

In the girls’ championship, Rusher survived a close morning match winning on the 18th hole over Emilia Migliaccio of Cary and setting up the championship match against number one seed Lucia Polo of Greensboro.  Polo advanced to the championship in a come from behind morning match against Madison Moosa of Charlotte.  In the championship match, Rusher birdied the first three holes to take a three up lead but Polo battled back and was one down after a birdie on number 16.  Both players reached the 17th hole in regulation, but Polo missed a tough breaking three foot putt for par and Rusher won the match 2&1.
