Greenville, SC -- Final results of the 35th Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship hosted by Green Valley Country Club on Wednesday, August 8, 2012.  Par 36-36--72 5852 yards.

After a first round wash out of the 35th Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship, the skies cleared and the sun appeared for what would be an 18 hole shoot-out in order to crown the champions for 2012.

Brooke Baker of Raleigh, NC teamed with local Lea Venable of Greenville, SC and shot a 5-under par round of 67 to win by two strokes over Anne Marie Covar of Edgefield, SC and Elizabeth Thompson of Charleston, SC.  Covar, who won this championship back in 2010 with Meredith Few of Aiken, SC, knew they needed to make some birdies to have a shot at winning.  "We had our chances out there," Covar said "But we just couldn't get the putts to fall."

The Baker-Venable duo were able to convert some putts after making birdie on holes 1, 2, 9, 11, 18.  Baker also had an eagle on the par 5, 450 yard 13th which was completely under water on Tuesday.  "I had about 210 to the green so I decided to go for it and I was lucky enough to hit it to about 10 feet from the hole and made the putt.  That was fun!" Baker said.

Both Baker and Venable would have liked to have two days to play for the championship but were excited with the win.  "What a great honor to finally win my first CGA championship," Venable stated.  "I've been second so many times!  So this really means a lot to me."  This win is also a first for Baker.  "We just have really great chemistry together.  We will definitely be back next year for sure."

Ironically, Baker just graduated from NC State University where she played golf for Page Marsh.  Marsh, who has won this championship six times with various partners, holds the record for most CGA Women's Four-Ball titles.  "I'm going to send coach a photo of the trophy with my name on it next to hers.  I think that is pretty cool!" Baker laughed.  "Maybe I can break her record one day."

Defending champions, Patty Moore of Charlotte, NC and Peg Brady of Stanley, NC finished five shots back and in a tie for 6th place.

In the tournament division June Wang of Huntersville, NC and Peggy Lea of Denver, NC shot a 3-under par round of 69 to take overall first place.  This division plays a shorter course.
