USGA Handicap Seminar on April 7 at Florence Country Club
West End,
NC (2/3/10) - The United States Golf Association (USGA) will
conduct a handicap seminar on April 7 at Florence
Country Club in Florence, S.C. Cost is $40.00 per person
and includes seminar and lunch. This will be the only USGA handicap seminar run by the USGA in the Carolinas
in 2010. Prior to 2007, the United States Golf
Association required someone from your club to attend a
USGA or CGA handicap seminar, take a test, pass it and
then sign a USGA Handicap Licensing Agreement. The USGA
has created the same obligation for your club between
2008 and the end of 2011. Your previous handicap
licensing agreement is valid until 12/31/2011. However,
someone from the club must take the seminar and test
before 12/31/2011 to fulfill the new obligation. This
seminar can accomplish the requirement.
Do not contact the CGA to sign up. If you are
interested in attending you must register through the
USGA...USGA

USGA Launches Database for 2010 Grooves
Far Hills, NJ
(11/24/09) -
The USGA has received numerous inquiries from
golfers wishing to know whether or not their clubs will meet the new
groove and punch mark specifications effective from Jan. 1, 2010
(the "New Groove Rules"). Many of these inquiries have come from
golfers who plan to play in events where the condition of
competition is in effect, requiring that the player's clubs conform
to the New Groove Rules (the "Condition of Competition"). As a
result, the USGA and The R&A have created a reference resource
called the Informational Club Database (the "Database")...Search
the USGA Informational Club Database
*CGA Note: This "Condition of Competition" only
effects players wishing to compete in the 2010 U.S. Open Sectional
qualifying, 2010 U.S. Senior Open Sectional qualifying, and 2010
U.S. Women's Open Sectional qualifying. 2010 U.S. Open Local
qualifiers will not have the local rule in effect but will go into
effect for 2011. USGA amateur championships, CGA tournaments and championships will not
implement the local rule until at least 2014.
