MONTGOMERY COUNTRY CLUB WINS 2006 CAROLINAS INTERCLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Clemmons, NC - Montgomery Country Club of Troy, NC held off 2002 champion River Hills Country Club of Lake Wylie, SC to win the Carolinas Interclub Championship at Tanglewood Park's Championship Golf Course.

Montgomery claimed the victory with a 28-20 win for their first Interclub title.

River Hills CC attempted to become the first team in the tournament’s nine-year history to become a repeat champion but fell short.

16 players from each club competed in Four-Ball (best ball) and individual Singles Match Play competitions with the most cumulative points determining the champion. Two points are awarded for a singles win and two points for a team win.

Record number 85 teams representing 22 Carolinas geographic zones entered the 2006 Interclub Team Match Play season.  32 teams advanced to the match play post season playoffs.

The Carolinas Interclub Team Matches was founded in 1996 by Ben Payne of Greensboro, NC.  The CGA assumed duties of the event in 2006 and serviced 2200 members in this season's Interclub.

The CGA is a non-profit service organization founded in 1909, which consists of 715 member clubs representing 185,000 golfers.
