2009 Interclub “Final-Four” (Teams) Announcement
West End, N.C. - The “Final Four” teams are set to compete for the 2009 CGA Interclub Match Play Championship November 7th and 8th at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, NC.
Built in 1928, Pine Needles is one of the more than 400 classic Donald Ross designs and has played host to the U.S. Women’s Open in 1996, 2001 and 2007. The course will measure 6,351 yards and a par of 71 for this event.
Semifinal matches will be played on Saturday (Nov. 7) and will pit River Hills CC (Lake Wylie, SC) against Cramer Mountain CC (Cramerton, NC), while Coharie CC (Clinton, NC) will meet Stoney Creek GC (Stoney Creek, NC) in the other semi-final match-up.
River Hills CC has been battle tested before in playoff competition, winning this championship in 2002. Coharie CC, Cramer Mountain CC and Stoney Creek GC are playing in their first ever semi-final Interclub match.
Twelve players from each club will compete at four-ball and singles match play with the most cumulative points determining the winner of each match. The winners will face off on Sunday (Nov. 8) for the Championship, along with a consolation round for 3rd place.
A total of 62 clubs from both North Carolina
and South Carolina began regular season competition in April with the top two
clubs from each group earning the right to advance to the match play post season
playoffs which began September 1.
In last year’s championship, Rock Hill CC (Rock Hill, SC) defeated Devils Ridge
GC (Holly Springs, NC) on the Champions Course at Bryan Park, Greensboro, NC.
Both clubs earned their way into this year’s playoffs but were defeated in the
second round.
The Carolinas Interclub Team Matches was founded in 1996 by Ben Payne of
Greensboro, NC. The CGA assumed responsibility of the event in 2006 as another
service to member clubs of the Carolinas Golf Association.
The CGA is a non-profit service organization founded in 1909, which consists of
719 member clubs and associations representing approximately 174,000 golfers.
