Carolinas Golf Association Awards Over $100,000

To Various Golf Programs in the Carolinas

West End, N.C. – The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) executive committee has awarded, through the Carolinas Golf Foundation (CGF), $102,000 for 2008 projects.

The CGA administers the CGF, absorbs CGF administrative costs and approves CGF activities. Monies are donated to various junior golf, women’s golf and turfgrass scholarships and turfgrass projects in the Carolinas. Since its inception in 1977, the CGF has donated over $1,000,000 to support golf in the Carolinas.

2008 Carolinas Golf Foundation Donations Have Been Awarded to:

-          Six Carolinas Community Colleges to help defray costs for turfgrass students

-          Clemson University Turfgrass Student Scholarships

-          North Carolina State University Turfgrass Student Scholarships

-          South Carolina Junior Golf Association

-          Assistance with USGA Junior Amateur/USGA Girls’ Junior Travel Expenses and with junior girls’ tournament administrative costs

-          First Tee of Greater Charleston, SC

-          Women’s Carolinas Golf Association

-          North Carolina Women’s Golf Association

-          Pinehurst Country Club for the  2008 U.S. Amateur Championship

-          First Tee of Wilmington, NC

-          Carolinas PGA Section

-          LPGA/USGA Junior Girls’ Golf Programs

-          First Tee of Spartanburg, SC

-          First Tee of the Sandhills (NC)

-          Central Piedmont Community College for Turfgrass Research Project

-          First Tee of Triad (NC)

-          First Tee of Brunswick County (NC)

“We are pleased to give these monies to worthwhile Carolinas projects,” said Charles E. Lynch, Jr. CGF Chairman. “These contributions continue to reap rewards for golf in the Carolinas in so many ways.”
