LANGLEY AND HADLEY OVERCOME SIX-SHOT DEFICIT TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIP

SOUTHERN PINES – A pair of old-timers, 71-year-old Tommy Langley of High Point and 67-year-old Tom Hadley of Hendersonville, made a pair of pars on the last hole Thursday to win the third North Carolina Senior Partners golf championship.

Langley and Hadley trailed first- and second-round leaders Ernie Newton of High Point and Tim Cook of Trinity by six shots as the last day’s play began at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club.

Hadley shot a day’s low score of 71, one under par on the 6,500-yard Mid Pines layout; and Langley had 74, giving the duo a four-round total of 282. Newton and Cook shot 66-67-80-72 for 283.

Langley and Hadley had a first-round 68 under the four-ball format, counting the better score on each hole. They teamed for a second-day 69 using a modified alternate-shot format. Both players’ individual scores counted the third day.
