Gary and Katie Garahan Wins Parent-Child Championship

Charlotte, NC—Gary and Katie Garahan of Rock Hill, SC fired a round of one-under par 70 to win the Carolinas Parent-Child championship at Ballantyne Resort Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. This was the Garahan’s first Parent-Child Championship and they vow to return to defend their title in 2004. Katie, 16, a student at North Western High School and the number one ranked player on the girls golf team said, "Dad putted unbelievable today. I mean, he made everything he looked at, it was amazing." Gary, 51, a part time consultant said, "without Katie’s flawless tee shots we would not be holding these trophies right now. We both contributed to the win and we had a great time." Gary and Katie won by a one shot margin over Titus and 11-year old Molly Plomaritis of Eden, NC.

The format of the championship, modified alternate shot, featured each player driving from the tee then choosing a ball to play and alternating until the ball is holed. Each team was pre-flighted based on total team handicap. This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
