Millican Defeats Jarman in 19 Holes to Claim the 6th
Women's Match Play Championship Crown
Southern Pines, NC—Semi-final and Final Round Results of the 6th
Women’s Match Play Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Mid
Pines Inn and Golf Club in Southern Pines, NC on Thursday, July 24th.
(5793 yards, par 72) 20 year old Adrienne Millican of Fuquay-Varina, NC and a member of the East
Carolina University women’s golf team, putted her way to her first Carolinas
Women’s Match Play Championship. "I didn’t feel like I did anything special
today. I would just hit it, find it, and hit it again. I did make a lot of putts
out there today, especially to save par." Millican, who has won the NC Junior
Girls championship three times, beat Perry Swenson 5 & 4 in the morning
semi-final match. "I hit the ball very well all week, but I have had trouble
with my putter all week, that’s just the way it is sometimes," Swenson said with
a smile. "I head to the Trans-National at the end of the week and you can be
sure that my putting will be fixed by then." Michelle Jarman, an eighteen-year-old, from Greenville, NC and a member of
the UNCW women’s golf team played steady. Her putter was hot too. Jarman beat
medalist, Lauren Robinson on the 19th hole with a birdie. Jarman has
also won the NC Junior Girls championship. "I was so nervous when Mrs. Bell was
following us around, but what an honor to say that she watched us play our final
match, Adrienne really played wonderful and she made a great putt on 18 to send
it into final holes." Jarman had to head into extra holes in both her semi-final
and final match. The first time she made the putt to win 19 holes, the second
time she missed the putt to lose. She kept smile on her face, just like she
always does, all along the way. All flights were completed today as well, with a final match and a
consolation match played in each. This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association. Championship Results - Semi-Final Matches Millican df. Swenson, 5&4 Jarman df. Robinson, 19 holes Final Results Millican df. Jarman, 19 holes
