Yelovich Wins 2nd North Carolina Women’s Senior Championship
Cornelius, NC -- Final round results of the 2nd North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur Championship hosted by The Peninsula Club in Cornelius, NC on Wednesday, September 28. (Par 36-36--72, 5486 yards).
Dianne Yelovich of Pinehurst, NC wins her first CGA championship by shooting the only sub-par round of the day. Yelovich, a former ski instructor from California, said that her short game was on fire. Yelovich was paired in the second to the last group of the day and had no idea how the leaders were doing. "I think it helped me that I didn't know, I just kept making pars and once in a while the birdies fell in too. I am thrilled to have won this championship." Yelovich also works as a caddie at Pinehurst #2 in her spare time and feels this helps her ability to read greens and stay patient. First round leader Melissa Sage of Charlotte had a triple-bogey which left her two shots back.
In the Super Senior division, Dollie Watson of Lexington, NC won over Gloria Anthony of Greensboro, NC by 5-shots. The super senior division is for competitors 65 years of age or older.
This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
