N.C. Professionals Win 11th Tar Heel Cup Matches 19-17

PINEHURST, NC - Sixteen of the finest golfers in North Carolina took part in two days of friendly competition at the 11th Annual Tar Heel Cup Matches. The Amateurs of the Carolinas Golf Association are battling the Professionals of the Carolinas PGA Section.

This year’s event proved to be the most competitive and exciting one in a number of years. The entire tournament came down to the Paul Simson and David Thore matchup. Thore birdied holes 17 and 18 to clinch the trophy for the CPGA. The CPGA won the event by a 19-17 score.

The CPGA Professionals were the defending champions and have now won nine out of eleven times since the inaugural event in 1995. Both the CPGA and the CGA sincerely thank the sponsors and the members and staff of Pinewild CC of Pinehurst for their support.
