CAROLE JONES CAPTURES FIRST CGA TITLE AT THE CAROLINAS WOMEN'S SENIOR
ORANGEBURG, SC--Carole Jones of Hillsborough, NC captures her first CGA title by one-stroke over defending champion Patty Moore and Melissa Sage of Charlotte, NC. Jones started out strong by making birdie on the first hole. "I have only played two rounds of golf since October, I usually like to take the winter off, I still can’t believe I won!" The 60 year old computer consultant went on to birdie eleven and twelve but a double-bogey on the fourteenth hole made her feel as though the tournament was slipping away. She managed to par her last three holes to hang onto the championship crown. "I just played steady golf today. I don’t have many goals anymore, I just try to go out there and have a good time." While giving her acceptance speech, Jones seemed shocked by what she had just accomplished but very excited about her game in the year ahead.
In the Super Senior division, Mary Rotan of Leesville, SC won over defending champion, Jessie Finucan by two-strokes. Players in the Super Senior division play a shorter course.
