CAROLINAS JUNIOR TEAM WINS THE 24TH CAROLINAS-VIRGINIAS JUNIOR TEAM MATCHES

Chapel Hill, NC--After the first two round of matches, the 24th Carolinas-Virginias Junior Team Matches were only separated by 1 point.  But after Sunday's singles matches, there was a big separation between the two teams.  The Carolinas Junior team blitzed the talented Virginias Junior team 5 1/2 points to 2 1/2 points to win the team matches for the first time in 3 years.  Wesley Bryan of Chapin got things going in the first singles match of the morning defeating Garland Green of Tazewell, VA 7&6.  When the match ended, Bryan was 7 under par through 12 holes.  The Virginias then made a move when Michael Taylor of Ashland, VA defeated Robert Hoadley of Southern Pines, NC, 2&1 in a very tight match.  Michael Moyers of Stanardsville, VA kept the move going finally defeating Ryan Sullivan of Winston-Salem, NC, 2&1.  Sullivan battled back from being 2 down several times during the match while fighting a bad blister on his hand that made if difficult to hold on the the club.  In match #12, McCuen Elmore of Cheraw, SC triumphed over Marshall Bailey of Fincastle, VA, 1 up after coming back from being 2 down during their match.  The momentum continued when Jacob Burger of Orangeburg, SC closed out Aaron Eckstein of Salem, VA, 2&1.  The 2006 Carolinas Junior champion Will Ovenden of Spartanburg, SC fought back to halve his match with Cory Amory of Crozet, VA after being down several times.  The Carolinas team then sealed the victory when Will Collins of Salisbury, NC defeated Lanto Griffin of Blacksburg, VA, 3&2.  Clint Tolleson of Spartanburg, SC then capped a victorious day by defeating Sam Beach of Glen Allen, VA, 1 up.  The Carolinas Golf Association will keep the Vinnie Giles trophy until next summer when the matches celebrate their 25th anniversary at Boonsboro CC in Lynchburg, VA.  Final Results
