Matthews, NC -- Playing the second round in a cold breezy rain,
Amber Littman of Stoney Creek, NC and Kathleen Strandberg of Greensboro,
NC needed an extra hole to determine the first champion in the Vicki DiSantis Girls' Junior Championship at Emerald Lake Golf Club in
Matthews, NC. Both players finished the stipulated rounds at 6 over par
148 on the par 71 course that played to a total yardage of 5783 yards.
On the playoff hole, both players hit the first green in 2. Littman
calmly rolled in her 25 foot birdie putt and Strandberg then missed her
6 foot birdie putt. This is Littman's, the 2005 Carolinas Junior Girls
player of the year, third Carolinas Golf Association junior
championship. She also captured 2005 N.C. Girls' Junior Championship
and the 2005 Girls' Dogwood State Junior. Finishing in third place was
Ashley Denton of Wendell, NC.
In the girls' 14-15 age division, Sarah Almond of Albemarle, NC
while Courtney Gunter of Matthews, NC placed second and Rachel Uremovich
of Hilton Head Island, SC finished third. In the girls' 12-13 age
division, Allison Emery of Charlotte finished first, Haley Heath of
Lancaster, SC finished second and Kendra Collins of Bluffton, SC
finished third.
The Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls' Championship is conducted by the
Carolinas Golf Association in honor Vicki DiSantis and her dedication
and hard work on improving girls golf in the Carolinas. |
