Lauren Hunt Wins 9th Carolinas Women’s Match Play Championship
Stanley, NC -- Final Round Results of the 9th Carolinas Women's
Amateur Match Play Championship hosted by Cowans Ford Country Club in Stanley,
NC on July 13, 2006. Par 36-36--72, 5997 yards.
They say that three times a charm but in that didn't seem to hold true for
Michelle Jarman of Wilmington, NC. This is the third time in a row that she has
finished as a runner-up in this championship. Jarman faced Blythe Worley in the
semifinals and it seemed that every putt she stood over she made. "I was
feeling really good about the finals - I am dissapointed that I didn't win
but Lauren (Hunt) made some great putts and there's not much I can do about
that," Jarman said with a smile.
Lauren Hunt is no stranger to winning. She is a past Women's Carolinas Amateur
Champion and has been very successful in the junior ranks. She also was the
co-medalist in this years US Women's Amateur qualifier and will head out to
Oregon in a few weeks. Hunt faced fellow teammate Sydney Crane of Jamestown, NC
in the semifinals and made a great par-save putt on the 18th hole to close out
the match to win 1up over her friend. Hunt took that momentum into her final
match against Jarman and went 4 under after 12 holes to close Jarman out 5&4.
Hunt said, "I made a lot of great putts in this final match. I had heard
that Michelle had a hot putter so I really focused on making some putts. I was
lucky they fell for me. I am honored to have won this championship."
This is Hunt's first major CGA championship win and looks forward to returning
next year to defend her title.
This women's championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
