KOHLES AND TAYLOR TRIUMPH AT 3RD DOGWOOD STATE JUNIOR

High Point, NC (8/16/07) —Ben Kohles of Cary carded a three under par 69 and secured his first Carolinas Golf Association junior championship title in the 3rd Dogwood State Junior Championship.  Kohles, a rising high school senior, finished his final round with four birdies and one bogey on the par 72 Willow Creek course at High Point CC.  Kohles finished with a three day total of eleven under par 205.  Finishing in second place and eight shots back at 213 was Will Almand of Cary.  Almand, a rising high school senior who has committed to play college golf at UNC-Greensboro finished with a three under par 69.

Courtney Taylor of Gastonia successfully defended her title winning the girls division by five shots over Megan Moore of Bahama.  Taylor finished with a two over par 74 and a three day total of eight over par 224 to secure her second CGA title of the summer.  Taylor, a rising high school junior, also won the Carolinas Girls’ championship in June.

Davis Womble of High Point captured his third CGA age division title of the summer winning the boys’ 12-13 age division with a three total of 221, six better than a trio of players.  Womble also won the NC Junior Boys 13 and under championship and the boys’ 12-13 age division in the Carolinas Junior championship.

In the 11 and under division, Tanner Owen of High Point finished with a 27 hole total of two under par 106 to finish in first place.

This junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.

MOORE, TAYLOR AND MCGOWAN TO BE HEADLINERS AT CGA'S 3RD DOGWOOD STATE JR. CHAMPIONSHIP

WEST END, NC (8/10/07)— Defending champion Courtney Taylor Gastonia, NC and top-ranked Meghan Moore of Bahama, NC will be headliners among the girls, while Michael McGowan of Southern Pines, NC will be the highest ranked male player at the 3rd Dogwood State Junior Championships, which will be played August 14-16 on the Willow Creek Course at High Point (NC) Country Club.

The Carolinas Golf Association event is a 54-hole stroke competition for boys in the 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18 age divisions and the girls'

division. Boys ages 11 and under will engage in 27 holes of stroke play.

After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low half and ties in each division except for the youngest boys' division, in which there is no cut.

Taylor, the reigning Carolinas Junior champion, won the Dogwood State title a year ago at Bermuda Run CC near Winston-Salem by a one-stroke margin. She comes into this year's event ranked No. 5 among North Carolina girls. Moore, winner of the Vicki DiSantis Junior and a co-runnerup in the North and South Junior earlier this summer, is the No.1 ranked girl in the Tar Heel state.

McGowan, son of former PGA Tour regular and current Champions Tour player Pat McGowan , is second-ranked among North Carolina boys. McGowan's credits this year include reaching the quarterfinals of the U.S. Junior Championship, which was played last month at Boone Valley GC in Augusta, MO.

The starting field of 134 at this year's Dogwood State Junior includes 28 competitors in the girls' division, 12 in the boys' 12-13 age bracket, 10 in the 11-and-under group and 84 in the 14-18 boys' championship division. A sectional qualifying event at Sourwood Forest Golf Club in Snow Camp, NC on Aug. 6 helped to trim the field down from the 203 who signed up prior to the July 27 entry deadline. Zachary Garrison of Mills River, NC shot 69 to lead the 46 boys, ages 14-18, who successfully qualified at Sourwood Forest.

This will be the 11th time that High Point CC's Willow Creek Course has hosted a CGA major competition. The Willard Byrd-designed course will play at 6,812 yards for the older boys.

Sullivan and Taylor Win 2nd Dogwood State Junior Championship

Bermuda Run, NC--Starting off a little shaky, Ryan Sullivan of Winston-Salem settled down and won the 2nd Dogwood State Junior Championship at Bermuda Run C.C.  Sullivan, who has verbally committed to play collegiate golf at UNC Wilmington, started of bogey and then a double bogey on the first 2 holes.  He then played the next 16 holes 1 under par to win by 2 shots over Tommy Gibson of Pilot Mountain and Lee Bedford of Cary.  Sullivan finished at 212, 4 under par for the championship.  Bedford was tied for the lead, but a double bogey on the last hole cost him a spot in a playoff.  This win qualifies Sullivan for the Carolinas Junior team which will play the Virginias Junior team at Chapel Hill CC on August 19th and 20th.

In the girls division, Courtney Taylor of Gastonia played consistent golf to win by 1 shot over Colleen Estes of Cary.  Taylor, a rising sophomore, shot a third round 75 for a 3-day total of 232.  Finishing in third was Courtney McKim of Raleigh, 4 shots back of Taylor.

Christian Hawley of Kernersville won the boy's 14-15 age division, while Robert Register of Burlington won the boy's 12-13 age division.  Tanner Owen of High Point won the 11 and under age division.  Final Results
