Anthony and Debbie Adams of Asheville, NC Repeat as Carolinas Mixed Team Champions

 

Ocean Isle Beach, NC (9/2/07) -- Final round results of the 2nd Carolinas Mixed Team Championship hosted by Ocean Ridge Plantation, Lion's Paw Course, in Ocean Isle Beach, NC on Sunday, September 2, 2007. Par 36-36--72  6400 yards men; 5500 yards women.

 

Defending champions, Anthony and Debbie Adams of Asheville, NC maintains their title of the Carolinas Mixed-Team champions for a second straight year.  The Adams duo carded five birdies on the windy final day shooting a 7-under par 65.  "We still left some birdies out there," said Debbie.  "We just played so well together.  We also both made two bogeys on a hole at the same time too."  Kevin Atamian and Katie Brenny of Raleigh, NC again finished in second place seven shots back of the leaders. 

 

The championship faces a man and a woman on a team in a four-ball competition.  Players were placed into flights after the first round.

 

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.

 

2nd CAROLINAS MIXED TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR LION'S PAW GOLF LINKS, SEPT. 1-2

WEST END, NC (8/24/07)— A field of 59 teams, including defending champions Anthony and Debbie Adams of Asheville, NC, entered the second Carolinas Mixed Team Championship, which will be played September 1-2 at Ocean Ridge Plantation's Lion's Paw course near Ocean Isle Beach, NC.

The Carolinas Golf Association event for teams consisting of a male and female golfer is a 36-hole four-ball stroke play competition, with the field divided into flights by gross score after the first round.

The teams will compete on the par-72, Willard Byrd-designed Lion's Paw Course, which opened in 1990. The men will play from tees measuring 6,450 yards, while the ladies' course will cover 5,578 yards.

This is the second straight year that Ocean Ridge Plantation has hosted the event.

Last year, when it was played on the development's Panther's Run course, the husband-wife Adamses shot 67-67--134 to win by one stroke over Kevin Atamian and Katie Brenny of Raleigh.

Although this is only the second Carolinas Mixed Team Championship, a similar competition had been conducted by the CGA in past years under the group's One-Day Tournament program.

ANTHONY AND DEBBIE ADAMS WINS INAUGURAL CAROLINAS MIXED TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Sunset Beach, NC -- Final results of the 1st Carolinas Mixed-Team Championship hosted by Ocean Ridge Plantation's Panther's Run course in Sunset Beach, NC on September 3-4, 2006. Par 36-36--72.

Anthony and Debbie Adams of Asheville, NC shot a pair of 67's to win the first Mixed Team championship of the Carolinas Golf Association. Debbie is no stranger to winning, she has been the Women's Carolinas Amateur champion, the NC Women's State amatauer champion and holds many other titles. Husband Anthony is also a scratch player. The team of Adams-Adams said they played well together and always had a chance at birdie. The format of the championship is a 36 hole four-ball stroke play event which is flighted by score after the first round.

Kevin Atamian and Katie Brenny of Raleigh also shot sub-par rounds but found

themselves one-shot back after the final day. The biggest comeback story of

the final day though was when former Stanford player, Julie Streng of Greensboro, NC along with husband Colin shot an unbelievable 63 in the final round. "Colin played great today - he made everything he looked at," Julie said. "We had a great time getting out and playing together and look forward to being able to do it again next year."

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
