50 YOUNGSTERS TO COMPETE FOR TITLE IN 1ST N.C. BOYS 13 & UNDER CHAMPIONSHIP

WEST END, NC (7/13/07) -- A field of 50 youngsters will compete in the inaugural North Carolina Boys 13 & Under Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association, which will be played July 16-17 at Asheboro Municipal Golf Course.

The youngsters will play an 18-hole stroke-play qualifying round on July 16 to determine match play flights and seedings. The top 16 scorers will qualify for the championship flight, which will have four rounds of match play -- the first three matches covering 9 holes and the championship match, 18 holes.

The Boys 13 & Under competition was previously part of the CGA's North Carolina Junior Championship, but because of an ever-increasing number of entries, a new championship for the younger boys was created this year. Andy Knox of Cary, who won the 13 & Under division at last year's N.C. Junior, has aged out of the division.

The tournament will be played on a 72-year-old course designed by legendary architect Donald Ross. It will play at 5,520 yards with a par of 70 for the youngsters.
