GARY ROBINSON CLAIMS 14TH NORTH CAROLINA MID-AMATEUR TITLE Wilson, NC (9/16/07) – Final round results of the 14th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship hosted by Wilson Country Club in Wilson, NC on Sunday, September 16, 2007. (6815 yards, par 36-35—71). 48-year-old Gary Robinson of Fayetteville, NC shot a final round one-under par 70 to win the 14th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship by three-strokes over Cliff Benson III of Raleigh, NC. Benson faltered with a four-over par 75 to finish alone in second place. 16-time CGA champion, Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC finished at even par 213 in third place. Robinson, a contract builder, claims his first CGA championship title. “My putting was unbelievable,” Robinson said. “I never missed a putt inside 6-feet all weekend. It was my wife’s birthday on Friday and she followed me all weekend telling me just to have fun. She was my lucky charm.” With the win Robinson gains a five-year exemption into any CGA championship that he is eligible and possession of the P.J. Boatwright Trophy for the ensuing year. Defending champion Michael Goodes of Reidsville, NC turned professional and was ineligible to defend. The top-30 players are exempt into the 2008 North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship. This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.

MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE PLAYED AT WILSON CC, SEPT. 14-16 WEST END, NC (9/4/07) - The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct its 14th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship at Wilson (NC) Country Club, Sept. 14-16. This year's entry list does include 2006 co-runnersup Pat Thompson of Asheville and John Walters of Charlotte, who lost to Goodes in the playoff. MIKE GOODES WINS 13TH NC MID-AMATEUR ON FIRST PLAYOFF HOLE Jacksonville, NC – Final round results of the 13th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Jacksonville Country Club in Jacksonville, NC on Sunday, September 17, 2006. (6554 yards, par 35-36—71). Mike Goodes, 49, of Reidsville defeated John Walters of Charlotte and Pat Thompson of Asheville on the first playoff hole with a birdie to win the 13th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship. Goodes, a member at Pennrose Park Golf Club, claims his third CGA major championship of the 2006 season. He won the Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship at Musgrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton, SC in April and the North Carolina Amateur Championship at Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, NC in June. Goodes held a one-stroke lead heading into the 18th hole but a double-bogey six moved him to a two-under par 211 total. Thompson and Walters both were three-under par for the championship heading in the 18th hole, but both players bogeyed the final hole to force a playoff. “I’m lucky as hell”, said Goodes. “I am very fortunate to have won three majors this year, two of them in playoffs. My birdie putt on the playoff hole was no more than six inches from where I was in regulation play today. So I almost did not even have to read it.” Goodes canned the six-foot birdie putt to claim his first North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship. Reigning Carolinas Amateur champion Scott McClellan of Cary shot a final round 73 and finished tied for sixth place. The championship was moved last week from River Landing in Wallace to Jacksonville Country Club due to severe flooding in the Wallace area. The North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship is open to male amateur golfers over the age of 30, residents of North Carolina, have a 5.4 handicap index or less, and is a member of a Carolinas Golf Association member club. This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
