Gary and Katie Garahan Wins Carolinas Parent-Child Championship for Second Time Southern Pines, NC (7/27/07) - Gary and Katie Garahan, the winners of the 2001 Parent Child Championship, returned to the winner's circle at Longleaf CC. The Garahans bested Gary Robinson and his daughter Lauren Veauthier in a playoff with a birdie on the second playoff hole. The teams tied #1 with pars and on the par 3 second, Katie stuck her tee shot to 10 feet and dad rolled in the putt for the win. CRANES GO FOR THIRD STRAIGHT TRIUMPH IN 10th CGA PARENT-CHILD AT LONGLEAF GOLF & CC WEST END, NC (7/23/07) — Tom and Sydney Crane of Jamestown, NC will be shooting for a spot in the record book when the Carolinas Golf Association's 10th Parent-Child Championship is held at Longleaf Golf & Country Club in Southern Pines, NC on July 27.The Cranes, who play out of Colonial CC in Thomasville, have won the championship the last two years and another victory would put them alongside Chuck and Rebecca Burkhart of Clemmons, NC, who won three straight Parent-Child titles from 2000-2002. Daughter Sydney includes in her victories the 2005 Twin State Junior Girls' Championship at the CC of North Carolina. After winning at the Country Club of Whispering Pines with a 71 in 2005, the Cranes matched the lowest score ever posted in the event with their three-under-par 68 last year at Longleaf. In relation to par, however, the Burkharts still hold the mark since their 68s in 2000 and 2002 both came on par-72 courses. The Burkharts are not entered this year. The field for this modified alternate shot event, which is conducted in conjunction with the CGA's annual Father-Son Championship, is an interesting mix of mother-son, father-daughter and grandparent-grandchild. Just about any combination is allowed, with the exception of two male golfers on the same team.
