N. C. Professionals Win 7th Straight Victory in Tar Heel Cup Matches SOUTHERN PINES, NC (4/3/07) - The Carolinas PGA (25½ pts.) defeated the Carolinas Golf Association (10½ pts.) to retain the Tar Heel Cup. The event was held at the Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club site of the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open. This is the seventh year in a row the CPGA has defeated the CGA. At the end of the first day four-ball matches the CPGA took an 8½ - 3 ½ lead with the CPGA gaining a least half a point in each match. The amateur team of Scott McClellan and Brian Westveer were able to win 2½ points against the CPGA team of Curt Sanders and Tim Straub. During the second day singles matches, the CPGA got off to an early start and clinched the cup after earning 10 ½ points in the first four matches. John Finster was able to win 2 ½ points for the CGA however his efforts were too late.
