LARRY BOSWELL WINS 1ST NORTH CAROLINA SUPER SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

Greensboro, NC (10/1/08) – Final round results of the 1st North Carolina Super Senior Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Greensboro Country Club, Irving Park course, in Greensboro, NC on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 (5842 yards, par 37-34—71).

Larry Boswell of Jamestown carded an even par final round of 71 to win the inaugural North Carolina Super Senior Championship by four strokes over Jay Hoover of Greensboro and Tom Hadley of Hendersonville.

The 65-year-old Boswell played steady golf with three birdies off-set by three bogeys in his round. This is Boswell's second CGA senior individual title as he won the 1998 Carolinas Senior Amateur at Forsyth Country Club in Winston-Salem, NC.

The North Carolina Super Senior Championship is open to male amateur golfers age 65 and over, who are North Carolina residents and have a 15.4 handicap index or less at a CGA member club.

The field was divided into flights by round one scores for the final round. Flight results are listed at bottom.

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.

 

N.C. SUPER SENIORS GET THEIR OWN CHAMPIONSHIP AT GREENSBORO CC'S IRVING PARK, SEPT. 30-OCT. 1


WEST END, NC (9-28-08) -- The inaugural N.C. Super Senior Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association, a 36-hole stroke play event for male golfers ages 65 and over, will be played Sept. 30-Oct. 1 on Greensboro Country Club's Donald Ross-designed Irving Park Course.

Prior to this year, the extra old guys had to be content with playing in Super Senior divisions that were part of the Carolinas Senior Amateur Championship and the North Carolina Senior Amateur championship. Not any more. Now they have their own event, complete with a trophy and merchandise prizes to the champion.

A field of 97 golfers will compete on the 5,842 yard, par-71 Irving Park course that opened for play in 1909, the same year the Carolinas Golf Association was founded. After the first round, the golfers will be placed into a minimum of six flights based on their first-day scores.

Larry Boswell of Jamestown, NC, a five-time winner of the Carolinas Mid-Amateur, is among the favorites. Bob Clark of Asheville, NC, a former Carolinas Senior Amateur champion, and Tom Hadley of Hendersonville, NC, a past winner of both the N.C.
Senior and Carolinas Senior, are both entered.

This will be the 11th time that a CGA championship has been played at Greensboro Country Club.

FORMAT
The championship format is 36 holes of stroke play. The field will be flighted after the first round according to score.

ELIGIBILITY
Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday by the first day of the championship, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA handicap index at a CGA member club. The maximum allowable index is 15.4.

Below are a few updates concerning the championship:

- Final round on Wednesday will be a 9:30am shotgun start with a lunch hosted by the CGA following play at the club’s Pool Pavilion.

-The field will be flighted according to score for the final round. There will be a minimum of 6 flights.

-Remember to check-in to the golf shop prior to play on Tuesday and pay the cart/range fee for both rounds ($46.00). Cash only.

-Food and beverage will only be available at the halfway house on the golf course and at the cash bar that will be set-up outside the golf shop. Cash only as well for food and beverage.

-Practice range at Irving Park is only 170-yards long therefore only short irons are allowed. If you need to hit longer clubs, then the club’s practice facility on Horse Pen Creek Road will be open at 7:00am each morning. Tell the attendant you are with the CGA Super Senior Championship.

WEST END, NC (9/22/08) -- The inaugural N.C. Super Senior Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association will be played Sept. 30-Oct. 1 on Greensboro Country Club's Donald Ross-designed Irving Park Course.

The 36-hole stroke play event for male golfers ages 65 and over replaces the Super Senior divisions that were removed from both the Carolinas Senior Amateur Championship and the North Carolina Senior Amateur championship.

The field of 98 golfers is headed by Larry Boswell of Jamestown, NC, who has amassed a most impressive record in CGA events over the years. Boswell is a five-time winner of the Carolinas Mid-Amateur, a former South Carolina Amateur champion, the 1998 Carolinas Senior Champion, and winner of the 2002 N.C. Senior Four-Ball title and two Carolinas Senior Four-Ball titles with partner Ronnie Grove of Raleigh.

The tournament will be played on the 6,014 yard, par-71 Irving Park course that opened for play in 1909, the same year the Carolinas Golf Association was founded. This will be the 11th time that a CGA championship has been played at Greensboro Country Club.

CGA ANNOUNCES ADDITION OF NORTH CAROLINA SUPER SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

West End, NC (7/16/08) -- The Carolinas Golf Association has announced the addition of the North Carolina Super Senior Championship to its 2008 tournament schedule.

The 36-hole stroke-play event for male North Carolina residents age 65 and over who are members of a CGA member club with a handicap index of 15.4 or less will be played at Greensboro Country Club's Irving Park course in Greensboro, NC. The 6014-yard course was designed by Donald Ross and opened for play in 1909, the same year the CGA was founded.

This stand-alone championship replaces the Super Senior division that was removed from both the Carolinas Senior Amateur Championship and North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship earlier this year.

Entries open on July 21 with the registration deadline set for September 17.
