GARY-KATIE GARAHAN WINS CGA PARENT-CHILD CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THIRD TIME Southern Pines, NC (7/27/08) - Gary and Katie Garahan of Rock Hill, SC successfully defended their crown in the 11th Parent-Child Championship and became the second three time winners. Last year it took them two extra holes to secure the title over Gary Robinson and his daughter Lauren with a birdie. This year they birdied the first play-off hole to quickly dispatch Wayne and Meghan Moore of Bahama, NC. After selecting Katie's drive, Gary, the current Rock Hill CC club champion, put their second a respectable 30' from the hole. Katie, a rising senior at Gardner-Web College and a member of the golf team drained the putt for the title. They join Tom and Sydney Crane of Jamestown as back to back winners of the Parent-Child.
GARY-KATIE GARAHAN AIM FOR A THIRD VICTORY IN CGA PARENT-CHILD AT LONGLEAF GOLF & CC WEST END, NC (7/21/08) - Gary and Katie Garahan of Rock Hill, SC will be shooting for their third victory when the Carolinas Golf Association's 11th Parent-Child Championship is held at Longleaf Golf & Country Club in Southern Pines, NC on July 25. With a victory, the Garahans, who won in 2003 at Ballantyne Resort and last year at Longleaf, would become only the second team to triumph three times. Chuck and Rebecca Burkhart of Clemmons, NC, won three straight Parent-Child titles from 2000-2002. The Burkharts are not entered this year. Also shooting for a third victory are Tom and Sydney Crane, who play out of Colonial CC in Thomasville. They won the title in 2005 and 2006, but were unable to make it three straight last year when the Garahans defeated Gary Robinson and daughter Lauren Veautheir on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff. The field for this modified alternate shot event, which is conducted in conjunction with the CGA's annual Father-Son Championship, is an interesting mix of mother-son, father-daughter and grandparent-grandchild. Just about any combination is allowed, with the exception of two male golfers on the same team.
