MEGHAN MOORE RETURNS TO MAKE DEFENSE OF TITLE IN CGA'S 3RD VICKI DiSANTIS JUNIOR GIRLS' CHAMPIONSHIP WEST END, NC (4/30/08) - Meghan Moore of Bahama, NC will have plenty of challengers when she chases her second straight victory in the Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls Championship at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte, May 3-4. Moore, the top-ranked junior in the Tarheel State, won this title by a three-stroke margin last year at Emerald Lake GC in Matthews, NC. She shot 73-74--147 to prevail over Erica Creed of Kernersville, NC. Creed won't return for the 3rd DiSantis competition, but among those trying to unseat Moore is fellow North Carolinian Courtney Taylor of Gastonia, who is ranked No. 3 among Tarheel junior girls. The biggest challenge, however, will likely come from the Palmetto State, with nine of South Carolina's top-ranked golfers entered in this year's 36-hole championship. Leading the contenders is South Carolina's No. 1 junior girl, Haley Stephens of Greer, who finished 20th in the DiSantis a year ago. Watch out also for No. 2-ranked Austin Ernst of Seneca, who tied for fourth last year and who won the S.C. Junior GA's Beth Daniel Player of the Year award in 2007. Also competing from South Carolina are No. 3-ranked Taylor Weaver of Spartanburg, No. 4 Cayci Ruppe of Gaffney, No. 5 Rachel Uremovich of Hilton Head Island, No. 6 Maureen Dunnagan of Lexington, No. 7 Danielle Dunnagan of Lexington, No. 8 Elizabeth Thompson of Charleston and No. 9 Anna Martin of Piedmont. Named for Vicki DiSantis of Pinehurst, NC, a member of the USGA Girls' Junior Championship Committee, the championship is open to North and South Carolina girls under the age of 19 who have not started college. It will be contested at 36 holes of stroke play. The par-71 Pine Island Country Club course, which underwent a major renovation in 2005, will be set up at 5,954 yards for all contestants.
