LAMB AND HETZEL PREVAIL AT 31ST CAROLINAS WOMEN'S FOUR-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP Lake Lure, NC (8/6/08) -- Final results of the 31st Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship hosted by Rumbling Bald Resort, Apple Valley Course, Lake Lure, NC on Wednesday, August 6, 2008. Par 36-36--71, 5674 yards. Defending champions Blythe Worley of Greenville, NC and Laura Crawford of Lancaster, SC could not hang on to make themselves three time Carolinas Women's Four-Ball champions. Instead Blair Lamb of Flat Rock, NC and Mallory Hetzel of Summerville, SC will get their name on the Vicki Hillen Memorial Trophy for 2008. The team of Lamb and Hetzel shot a 7-under par round of 64--131 to win by two strokes over the defending champions. Hetzel won this championship at Kiawah's Turtle Point course back in 2003 with Karen Ferree of Hilton Head, SC. "We both played pretty well together," said Hetzel. "I had four birdies and Blair had three birdies. We had a two shot lead heading into the 18th hole and I told Blair just get your tee shot in the fairway. She hooked it out of bounds and it was up to me to make sure we didn't blow it. I was pretty nervous over my tee shot!" Needless to say Hetzel found the fairway and made a par on the tough closing par-5 18th. Both Hetzel and Lamb grew up playing in CGA junior golf championships and now are rising seniors in college with Hetzel a member of the University of Georgia golf team and Lamb a member of the Furman University golf team. This was the CGA first championship hosted by Rumbling Bald Resort. In the tournament division, Dee Holland of Cary, NC and Sandy Terrill of Apex, NC shot a two day total of 146 to win by three shots over the field. the tournament division plays a shorter course. This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.

WORLEY AND CRAWFORD GO FOR 3RD STRAIGHT IN 31ST CAROLINAS WOMEN'S 4-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP WEST END, NC (7/29/08) - Blythe Worley of Greenville, NC and partner Laura Crawford of Lancaster, SC will attempt to three-peat when the 31st Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship is played Aug.5-6 at Rumbling Bald Resort in Lake Lure, NC. Worley, the 2003 N.C. Junior champion, and Crawford, the 2001 S.C. Junior winner, first won the title two years ago at Seabrook Island Club, where they shot 66-63--129 to equal the tournament record posted by Page and Amber Marsh of Jamestown, NC in 1994. They repeated last year at Mid Pines Resort in Southern Pines, NC, with their 66-67--133, which was good enough for a six-stroke victory. Two-time champions Patty Moore of Charlotte, NC and Lori Teague of Newton, NC should provide some formidable opposition. Moore, who has been named Carolinas Senior Player of the Year the last four years and Woman Player of the Year in 2004 and 2007, will be shooting for her fifth Carolinas Women's Four-Ball title. She won in 1992 and 1993 with Terrie Foote of Mooresville, NC and with Teague in 2004 and 2005. Page Marsh of Jamestown, NC holds the record for most Carolinas Women's Four-Ball titles with six. She won in 1982, 1984 and 1985 with her mother Linda, in 1994 with her sister Amber, in 1998 with Marcy Newton and in 2002 with Karen Ferree. Marsh is not entered this year. The field for this year's championship consists of 46 teams. The 36-hole stroke play championship will be held on the par-72 Dan Maples-designed Apple Valley Course, which will play approximately 5,500 yards.
