Jim and Brent Pridgen Win 43rd Carolinas Father-Son Championship

Southern Pines, NC (12/12/09) – Final results of the 43rd Carolinas Father-Son Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club in Southern Pines, NC on Saturday, December 12, 2009 (6430 yards, par 36-36—72.

Jim Pridgen of Jamestown, NC and Brent Pridgen of Winston-Salem, NC birdied the first playoff hole to win the 43rd Carolinas Father-Son Championship.

Four teams were tied for the lead after 18 holes at two-under par 70. Jim and Brent Pridgen, Frank and Cordes Ford of Charleston, SC, T.D. and Thomas Todd of Laurens, SC and Ernie and Scott Newton of High Point, NC found themselves in a playoff for the overall title. Teams played the 380 yard par four 1st hole at Mid Pines.

Brent Pridgen smashed a drive leaving his father Jim with a short iron into the green. Jim’s approach shot nestled to five feet from the hole. Brent then rolled in the birdie putt to seal the victory.

“I told Brent that I am now 65 years old and we do not have too many more of these left”, stated Jim Pridgen. “We have come close in several of the Father-Son championships over the years but we finally closed the deal this time”.

The Carolinas Father-Son Championship is historically played on the last Friday in July. However due to severe weather back in July the championship site was unable to complete play thus forcing a rescheduling of the event for December 12.

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association which is celebrating its 100th year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.
