Tanner Owen Wins 3rd NC Boys 13 and Under Championship

Asheboro, NC (7/14/09) —Tanner Owen of High Point captured the championship trophy defeating Will Blalock of Gastonia, 3 & 2 in the championship match of the NC Junior Boys’ Championship being hosted by the Donald Ross designed Asheboro Golf Club. 

Owen jumped out to an early advantage taking a four up lead after the first nine holes.  But Blalock battled back winning the tenth and eleventh holes and reducing Owen’s lead to just two up going into the thirteenth hole. 

After halving several holes, Owen then won the match with a par three on the sixth hole. 

Earlier in the day, Owen defeated birthday boy Thomas Walsh of High Point 2&1 and Anthony Kennedy of Winston-Salem 3&2. 

Also winning their flights were Elliott Grayson of Shelby, Jacob Haithcock of Burlington, David Kocher of Charlotte and Benji Schlottman of Advance. 

This junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association, celebrating their one hundredth year of supporting amateur golf in the Carolinas.
