JOHN DELUISE WINS 2ND NORTH CAROLINA SUPER SENIOR
Salisbury, NC
(9/30/09) – Final round results of the 2nd North Carolina Super
Senior Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by the Country Club
of Salisbury in Salisbury, NC on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 (par 35-36—71,
6102 yards, Rating 69.6/122).
John Deluise of
Raleigh, NC fired a final round three-under par 68 to win the 2nd
North Carolina Super Senior Championship by two strokes over Tom Hadley of
Hendersonville, NC. The victory is Deluise’s first CGA championship title. His
scorecard included five birdies versus two bogeys and played the last 14 holes
at four-under par.
“I have finished
second many times but this is my first CGA win,” Deluise said.
Deluise came to
the final hole with a four shot advantage over Hadley. However Hadley made a
last ditch run at the title by holing his second shot from the fairway for an
eagle two to instantly cut Deluise’s lead in half.
“Tom’s shot on 18
was unreal. I was glad to have a big lead because it’s never easy for me at
these events as that final shot proved.” Deluise was able to make a comfortable
par on the final hole to secure the two stroke win.
Defending champion
Larry Boswell of Jamestown, NC posted a one-under par 70--145 and finished alone
in third place.
The North Carolina
Super Senior Championship is open to men age 65 and over, who are legal
residents of North Carolina, and have a 15.4 or lower handicap index at a CGA
member club.
This championship
is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association which is celebrating its 100th
year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.
CC OF SALISBURY TO HOST CGA'S SECOND N.C. SUPER SR.
CHAMPIONSHIP, SEPT. 29-30
WEST END, NC (9/21/09) -- The second N.C. Super Senior
Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association will be played Sept. 29-30 on the
Country Club of Salisbury's Donald Ross-designed course.
The 36-hole stroke play event for male golfers ages 65 and
over was created last year to replace the Super Senior divisions that were
removed from both the Carolinas Senior Amateur Championship and the North
Carolina Senior Amateur championship. The CGA also created a Carolinas Super
Senior Championship that was conducted earlier this year.
The field of 81 golfers is headed by Larry Boswell of
Jamestown, NC, who has amassed a most impressive record in CGA events over the
years. In addition to winning the inaugural N.C. Super Senior a year ago and the
first Carolinas Super Senior that was played in July, Boswell is a five-time
winner of the Carolinas Mid-Amateur, a former South Carolina Amateur champion,
the 1998 Carolinas Senior Champion, and winner of the 2002 N.C.
Senior Four-Ball title and two Carolinas Senior Four-Ball
titles with partner Ronnie Grove of Raleigh. Also in the field is Tom Hadley of
Hendersonville, who was co-runnerup behind Boswell last year on Greensboro CC's
Irving Park course.
The tournament will be played on the 6,178 yard, par-71 CC of
Salisbury course that opened for play in 1929. This will be the 16th time that a
CGA championship has been played at the Country Club of Salisbury.
