Age and Gender: Female (at birth) amateurs with a minimum age of 13 as of July 7, 2009

Handicap Index: Maximum index of 40.4 established at a CGA member club.

Residency Criteria: Must be a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina

Championship Format: The championship is conducted at match play. The 24 lowest handicap indexes will comprise the championship and first flight and will play from the "championship" tees.  The championship flight is comprised of 16 players.  The first flight is comprised of 8 players.  All other competitors will play from the "tournament” tees and will be divided into flights by scores after the 18-hole stroke play qualifying round.  All other flights are determined based on the total number of entries.

ELEANA COLLINS WINS 12TH CAROLINAS WOMEN'S MATCH PLAY TITLE

Stanley, NC (7/9/09) -- Final results of the 12th Carolinas Women's Match Play Championship hosted by Cowans Ford Country Club on Thursday, July 98, 2009.  Par 36-36-72, 5825 yards.

 

Eleana Collins of Pinehurst, NC captures her 4th CGA championship title by defeating 55 year old Pat Brogden of Garner, NC 6 & 5.  The 19 year old Collins plays for the University of Virginia Women's Golf Team and has had a strong junior career.

 

"I played pretty well today.  I didn't make many mistakes and my putting was pretty strong,"  Collins said.  

 

Collins was 5 up with five holes to play when heavy storms started to threaten the area.  She hit her approach shot on the green just left of the hole when she realized this was the same putt she had in her morning match.  With a confident stroke she calmly made the putt for a birdie and the win. 

 

"I was just trying to snuggle it up there but all of a sudden it went in and the match was over.  I am pretty excited." 

 

Collins is feeling confident in her game as she prepares for the North-South Women's Amateur Championship that will be held in her hometown next week.

 

Players were placed into fights for match play with the top 16 women competing for the overall championship.
