TO: U.S.Open Local Qualifying
Competitors at Pinewild CC (Magnolia Course), Pinehurst, NC
FROM: Ray Novicki, Carolinas Golf
Association
Starting Time
Please check the enclosed pairing
sheet for your May 18 starting time at Pinewild CC, Magnolia
Course. Remember that local qualifying is 18 holes, that
you must walk in all phases of the Open and that you are
responsible for providing your own caddie/cart driver.
Players must walk but you may carry your own bag during the
qualifying round. Caddies will be allowed to rent
a cart for the qualifying round at this site. Pull carts are
not allowed.
USGA Policies
The USGA prohibits the use of
cell phones during qualifying and championship rounds. Also,
the USGA does not allow spectator carts during qualifying rounds
or the championship proper. Distance measuring devices
will not be allowed and the one-ball rule will be in effect.
Club Policies
Traditional metal spikes are not
allowed at Pinewild. Only soft spikes are allowed. The penalty
for non-compliance is disqualification. Shirts must have
collars, shorts are allowed but must be Bermuda length and no
denim is allowed for players or caddies. Private coolers are not
allowed. PULL CARTS ARE NOT ALLOWED.
Practice Round
You are entitled to one
complimentary practice round on May 17 after 12:00 or when times
are available on weekday afternoons two weeks prior. Pinewild
will begin accepting calls for practice round tee times on May
1. There is a mandatory $20 cart/range fee for
the practice round. Make sure to identify yourself as a U.S.
Open qualifier participant. It would be helpful if you could
contact other qualifiers and make your own practice round game.
Cart fee for a caddie/cart driver on the qualifying date will
be $20 with range included. For all players not needing a cart
on the qualifying date, there will be a $5 range fee. Make sure
to check-in with the golf shop when you arrive and pay your
appropriate fees. Players are required to use a cart for the
practice round. Play the BACK (Black) tee markers
on all holes during your practice round except for hole #10.
The club accepts Visa, Master
Card and cash for all purchases.
Slow Play
Any player who is discovered
taking more than 40 seconds to play a stroke is subject to a
warning for slow play and will be advised of the fact. The
player will be notified that exceeding 40 seconds on one more
occasion will result in a penalty of one stroke. A third
violation will result in a two-stroke penalty, followed by
disqualification for a fourth.
Qualifying Spots
The number is not available. Once
the number of qualifying spots has been determined, it will be
updated on the CGA web site at
www.carolinasgolf.org. Look under the “2009
Tournament Tee Times” drop down list from the CGA home page for
