AUSTIN ERNST WINS 5TH VICKI DISANTIS GIRLS' JUNIOR

Charlotte, NC (5/2/10) - Playing in her final junior tournament, Austin Ernst wanted to go out as a winner; and win she did.  Ernst, a high school senior from Seneca, SC, captured to the 5th Vicki DiSantis Girls’ Championship with a two day total of two under par 140 on the 6,021 yard par 71 golf course at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte, NC.

Ernst, the 2008 Vicki DiSantis champion, played an impressive round of golf firing a two under par 69 in a swirling wind that had most of the other competitors on their heels all day.

“This is my last junior tournament, and I wanted to win.  I am going to play a few amateur events this summer and just relax before starting college in August” said Ernst who will play collegiate golf for LSU in the fall.  Ernst is the first two time champion of the Vicki DiSantis Girls’ Championship.

Finishing is second was Sarah Bae, a high school freshman from Cary, NC, who finished with a total of six over par 148.  McKenzie Talbert, the 2009 Carolinas Junior Player of the Year, finished in third place at seven over par 149.  Tied in fourth place at eight over par 150 was Katherine Perry of Cary, NC, the 2009 Vicki DiSantis champion, Taelor Rubin of Raleigh, NC and Morgan Webber of Moore, SC.

This annual junior girls’ championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association in honor of Mrs. Vicki DiSantis for her many years of service and dedication to junior girls’ golf in the Carolinas.
