(5/2/10) - Playing in her final junior tournament,
Austin Ernst wanted to go out as a winner; and
win she did. Ernst, a high school senior from
Seneca, SC, captured to the 5th Vicki
DiSantis Girls’ Championship with a two day total of
two under par 140 on the 6,021 yard par 71 golf
course at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte,
NC.
Ernst, the 2008
Vicki DiSantis champion, played an impressive round
of golf firing a two under par 69 in a swirling wind
that had most of the other competitors on their
heels all day.
“This is my
last junior tournament, and I wanted to win. I am
going to play a few amateur events this summer and
just relax before starting college in August” said
Ernst who will play collegiate golf for LSU in the
fall. Ernst is the first two time champion of the
Vicki DiSantis Girls’ Championship.
Finishing is second was
Sarah Bae, a high school freshman from Cary, NC, who
finished with a total of six over par 148. McKenzie
Talbert, the 2009 Carolinas Junior Player of the
Year, finished in third place at seven over par
149. Tied in fourth place at eight over par 150 was
Katherine Perry of Cary, NC, the 2009 Vicki DiSantis
champion, Taelor Rubin of Raleigh, NC and Morgan
Webber of Moore, SC.
This annual junior
girls’ championship is conducted by the Carolinas
Golf Association in honor of Mrs. Vicki DiSantis for
her many years of service and dedication to junior
girls’ golf in the Carolinas.
