About the Carolinas Golf Foundation: The Carolinas Golf Foundation was formed by the Carolinas Golf Association in 1977 to provide support for universities and technical schools involved in golf-oriented turfgrass research. In the last 32 years, the foundation’s scope and purpose has grown to provide funding in three main areas: scholarships, turfgrass research and player development. More than $1,100,000 has been awarded to various programs benefiting golf in the Carolinas. The foundation is funded by the Carolinas Golf Association and by contributions from individuals who want to invest in the future of golf in the Carolinas.
Tournament Eligibility, Rules, Format and Prizes: Entry is open to any amateur golfer who is at least 13 years of age as of the tournament date, is a member of a club that is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has a current USGA handicap index at a CGA member club. A player with more than one handicap index must use the lowest current index. Entries are subject to rejection at any time including during the event, by the CGA or by the club hosting the tournament. USGA Rules of Golf govern play. Tournament format is 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net. According to USGA handicap procedures, 90 percent of a player's course handicap is used to determine net scores. Course handicaps are limited to 30 strokes. If the difference between the partner’s course handicaps exceeds eight strokes, then an additional 10 percent reduction is applied to both team members. Teams are assigned into Men A, Men B, Mixed/Women flights based upon team gender composition and team handicap. Partner substitutions made within five days of the tournament date must be approved in advance by the CGA office. Any on-site partner substitutions may result in the new partner playing at scratch. Competitors must subscribe to all host club restrictions concerning dress, coolers, etc. Cart use is mandatory for tournament rounds and caddies are not allowed. Practice rounds are not available. Metal and ceramic spikes are prohibited. The CGA reserves the right to adjust course handicaps and/or withhold prizes for competitors whose handicaps are considered unrealistic or who have participated in a disproportionate share of CGA prize distributions. CGA will automatically post tournament scores for participants back to their home club handicap. Players or teams failing to list all hole-by-hole scores may face suspension from future CGA one-day tournaments. Merchandise is awarded for low gross and low net scores in all flights. Merchandise certificates are redeemable only at the host club's golf shop. Ties for low gross, 2nd gross, low net or last place net is broken using the USGA recommended method. The low gross and low net winner from each flight is eligible for the One-Day Four-Ball Tournament of Champions on December 12 at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club (No. 1) in Pinehurst, NC.
